Applications are invited for the full time position of Court Reporter.

We are Ireland’s largest courts newswire service and the pre-eminent supplier of exclusive, breaking news reports on some of the biggest trials and sentence hearings in the Central Criminal Court and Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in Dublin.

We are the premium courts reporting agency for all national and regional media outlets, including RTÉ, BBC Northern Ireland and almost every national newspaper and website. We have held this position for over two decades.

Over the last few years, our reporters have covered major cases including the Munster child abuse trial, the Anglo Irish Bank trial, the Terenure College abuse case and a host of other high profile trials and sentences. Our reporters regularly break stories and set the agenda with exclusive reports. We were the main source of daily coverage of the Disclosures Tribunal into allegations by garda whisteblower Maurice McCabe.

In the last number of years the company has also provided reports to the Courts News Ireland website.

The role of court reporter requires an ability to understand often complex legal cases and to accurately and efficiently provide reports of a high quality under tight deadlines and other pressures.

The job will often involve reporting on crimes of a highly sensitive and distressing nature and the successful candidate will need to be both robust and sensitive in handling such cases.

Applicants for this position should have an established track record in news reporting, ideally for national press. Experience of court reporting is an advantage but not strictly necessary.

You will demonstrate a high degree of personal initiative and good judgement. The capacity to work both independently and as part of a team and to work with the various elements of the criminal justice system is essential.

This is a one year contract with the possibility of continued employment after the end of this contract. Remuneration will be subject to negotiation depending on your experience. If you are interested in applying for this position please email a copy of your CV  (in PDF format and at two pages max) to: oifig@cccnuacht.ie, with an accompanying email which includes links to your most recent journalistic output or to a portfolio.

Closing date for applications is Friday May 5th 2023, at close of business.
